It's what fans of BOTOX have long suspected, the news that a little prick can change your skin for the better is now official!
A new study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology by Dr. Patrick Bowler, Court House Clinic, London UK, confirms that the long term use of BOTOX can reverse the aging process by permanently erasing forehead expression lines and remodeling the skin, by allowing it to 'rest' and renew.
Dr. Bowler says: "We all know Botox improves lines temporarily. I have found that with short-term use, expression lines still remain, but over the long term creases actually disappear, meaning the smoothing effect does not wear off when the Botox gives the deep skin creases the chance to repair so in the long term wrinkles can end up looking creaseless."
New Study Confirms BOTOX Reverses the Aging Process
Photodynamic therapy, a treatment for precancerous skin lesions, is thought to repair some signs of aging from sun damage, and a new study confirms this. Dermatologists led by Jeffrey S. Orringer at the University of Michigan treated the skin of 25 people with a light source and the light-activated drug Levulan. After a month, collagen production had increased about three-fold. Levels of a protein involved in skin-cell growth were also boosted, more than five-fold. Many of the effects were similar to what is seen after months of applying a retinoid cream, Orringer says. All the subjects developed redness and mild swelling for a few days; some had mild peeling. Patients need to avoid the sun for at least 48 hours after the procedure, until the photosensitizing drug wears off, Orringer says.

Botox: A shot at happiness Botox injections could give you more than a Nicole Kidman-smooth forehead. They might actually make you happier. In a new study about the psychological effects of the muscle-paralyzing drug, researchers have found that patients who freeze their frown lines seem to enjoy a boost in mood. Michael Lewis, an experimental psychologist at Cardiff University in Wales, teamed up with a chain of British cosmetic surgery clinics to follow 25 women who had undergone various facial procedures. Twelve patients had Botox injected into their glabellar frown lines, or the furrows between the eyebrows, and 13 patients had received other treatments. Patients filled out questionnaires including the Irritability-Depression-Anxiety Scale, a psychological test. The Botox group scored significantly lower on measures of anxiety and depression. And merely looking younger or refreshed didn't explain the difference; both groups were about equally happy with their new appearances. Dr. Lewis suspects a phenomenon linking facial expression and emotions, call "facial feedback," is at work. The idea that the act of frowning itself can make a person unhappier - and that smiling can trigger happiness - was first suggested by Charles Darwin, and there is a growing body of evidence that it may be true. But Dr. Lewis says Botox's possible psychological consequences aren't necessarily all positive. His future research will look at the downside of clipped facial emotions. 'For instance, imagine a teacher who wants to communicate anger to her class," he says. No word on whether he's concerned about the Nicole Kidmans of the world being unable to use their faces to act.
